The World Data Center for Biodiversity and Ecology (WDCBE) is a gateway to data and tools that address the information and research needs of scientists, resource managers, and policymakers. These data and tools are developed and curated by governments, not-for-profit organizations, conventions, multi-national initiatives, universities, and private agencies to address issues at local, regional, national, and global scales.

Wherever possible, the WDCBE provides access or linkages to online, openly accessible datasets. All datasets and tools described in the WDCBE must provide geospatially explicit metadata that conforms to a recognized metadata standard for scientific information.

The WDCBE is managed by the National Biological Information Infrastructure, a broad, collaborative program based in the U.S. Geological Survey, that provides increased access to data and information on the biological resources of the United States. The scope of the WDCBE is global, and we will continuously add new datasets as they become available. We welcome your contributions with respect to increasing the WDCBE scope and coverage. If you know of data that should be included within the WDCBE, please use the Contact Us form at the right to inform us.

Millennium Ecosystem Assessment

The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Synthesis Report presents a synthesis and integration of the findings of the four MA Working Groups (Condition and Trends, Scenarios, Responses, and Sub-Global Assessments).

This synthesis is organized around the core questions originally posed to the assessment: How have ecosystems and their services changed? What has caused these changes? How have these changes affected human well-being? How might ecosystems change in the future and what are the implications for human well-being? And what options exist to enhance the conservation of ecosystems and their contribution to human well-being?

This Synthesis Report does not provide a comprehensive summary of each of the four MA Working Group reports. Readers are encouraged to review the findings of these reports separately.
